A comparative study of passive waveshaping filter, high frequency voltage-source fed VSF and current-source fed CSF switch mode rectifier SMR converter supplied from single-phase ac supply presented in this study. The active harmonic filter of CSF switch mode converter used to supply different loads. Active harmonic filter used to reduce the harmonics at the main supply by controlling the duty cycle of the filter. While passive waveshaping filter reduce the harmonics at the supply with no control. The two circuits are designed and implemented using MatLab/Simulink. It is found that use of active harmonic filter increases the input power factor approximately from 0.6 to 0.8–1.0. Also, the filter is used to regulate the SMR dc bus voltage and converter performance was improved. Moreover, these improvements lead to reduce switch stresses, and the size and ratings of associated reactive components.
