This paper presents the optimization of high-speed train operation along the high speed line, by means of inter-station train operation optimization and interval running time distribution. First, an optimal model of high-speed train operation is introduced with the consideration of train traction/braking characteristics, line conditions, neutral sections, and speed limits. A numerical algorithm is adopted to establish the relationship between optimal train operation and running time, with the requirement of safety, punctuality, comfort, and energy-efficiency. Then the interval running time is redistributed based on the trade-off between train operation performance and timetable stability by dynamic programming. A case study of CRH3 high-speed train service along Beijing-Shanghai passenger dedicated line is illustrated at the end of the article.
