The goal of the investigations was to check the self-consistence of the theoretical model describing both SCW modes in semi-insulating semiconductors developed earlier. Investigations of optically excited space charge waves (SCW) in single crystals of the sillenite family (Bi/sub 12/SiO/sub 20/, Bi/sub 12/GeO/sub 20/, Bi/sub 12/TiO/sub 20/) are presented. SCW are eigenmodes of charge oscillations in semi-insulating semiconductors in the presence of an external electric field.
