From interplanetary to sending a basic spacecraft to space, the first goal is getting to space. Launch vehicle selection is a paramount step of a space mission that many criteria such as launching, reliability of the launch system, environmental and meteorological conditions, availability, launch system and spacecraft compatibility, cost, lifting ability, durability, relations between countries, and some other criteria are considered. Therefore, the launch system selection can be named a “multi-criteria decision-making problem” and it is an evaluation of multiple alternatives and their characteristics. In this study; TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) which determines the criteria closest to the ideal solution together with AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Procedure) to decide and choose the best alternative was studied for launch vehicle selection.
