Liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) microdisplays derived from LC and IC, have attracted much global attention due to potential applications in front/rear projection displays, near-to-eye virtual displays, small mobile devices, such as, cell phones and PDAs. Specifically, LCOS offers several advantages in projection display applications. These advantages include best solution for high resolution large screen display, best display quality, and best potential for mass market demand. Despite these advantages, LCOS future success is mainly dependent on the abilities of solving upcoming challenges. The preoccupations among those include improving the optical system efficiency/architecture, bill-of-material (BOM) selections and optimizations, prolonging the lifetime against the working conditions and environments.
