A linear-quadratic-Gaussian/loop-transfer-recovery (LQG/LTR) design for an automatic landing controller for a typical commercial aircraft encountering a severe wind shear is presented. The airplane model is described, and the control objectives are outlined. Simulation results are presented, and the performance of the controller in handling the wind shear is evaluated.
