End-pumping of Nd:YVO/sub 4/ crystals is often employed in the design of medium-power high-efficiency diffraction-limited oscillators. We report on a high power and high efficiency oscillator benefiting from a novel pumping technique of Nd:YVO/sub 4/. The oscillator built around a high gain pump module is particularly suited for the generation of short pulses.
