This paper explores a thermal homogenization method for multi-turn windings and its impact on the temperature distribution in a realistic electrical motor geometry. The homogenization method combines a geometrical part and the estimation of equivalent physical properties for the homogenized winding region. A good agreement in both hot spot temperature and position is found between homogenized and non-homogenized models. On top of that, the robustness of this method for a slot with a low number of wires and some randomness in their position is evaluated as well.
