This paper discusses the design considerations of switched reluctance machines (SRMs) for structural vibration reduction. The characteristics of vibration in SRMs at both non-resonant and resonant conditions are presented. Significant design variables for vibration reduction without sacrificing torque output are identified by performing a sensitivity analysis based on Design of Experiments (DoEs). A comprehensive study on the identified significant design variables is conducted to assess the effects of each of these variables on machine vibration. The design considerations for vibration reduction of SRMs are provided from both electromagnetic and mechanical perspectives. This work is carried out based on finite element analysis simulation results.
