This study focuses on the conversion process and testing outcomes of a slotted to slotless brushless DC motor. The main objective was to assess the performance characteristics of a newly developed slotless brushless motor derived from a 12-slot/8-pole slotted brushless DC motor. The conversion involved removing the stator core of the existing slotted brushless motor and implementing a new rectangular winding set without a stator core to create a slotless brushless DC motor. The design details of the new three-phase winding for the slotless motor are also presented. Experimental tests were conducted, including rotational speed tests and wind speed tests under different load conditions. The test results demonstrated the proposed slotless brushless DC motor has higher achievable speeds of up to 18 times at the no-load test, a weight reduction of up to 28.5 %, and higher wind velocity of up to 2.5 times compared to the existing slotted brushless DC motor.
