Reactive power is essential for the functioning and maintenance of transmission and distribution systems. The efficiency and voltage profile of the system is entirely determined by the system's loss. When the system's losses increase, the efficiency and voltage profile of the system decrease, resulting in system instability. As a result, by introducing a compensation device such as the Flexible AC Transmission System [FACTS], the performance of the power system can be improved. Facts devices can effectively control power flow and voltage regulation, enhance transient stability, and mitigate system oscillation. A Static synchronous series compensator [SSSC] is used for the compensation process in this paper. It is the prominent facts device for reactive power control in power systems. The operating location of SSSC is based on the site of minimum power loss in line and overall production cost after installation of SSSC. The proposed method employs a genetic algorithm to identify the most suitable place for settling SSSC. The IEEE 30 Bus system is subjected to the SSSC placement approach, and the results are shown.
