In order to improve the dynamic performance of the speed synchronization control method for the dual-switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive, a virtual spindle strategy with the disturbance observation feedforward compensation for speed synchronization is proposed. First, a disturbance observer is designed based on the motor mechanical equation and the perturbation observation strategy. The total disturbance of the dual-SRM drive is observed by introducing a time-varying control factor. The virtual speed command is obtained based on the virtual spindle control structure and the motor parameters with the designed disturbance observer. Then, the virtual speed command is used as the reference speed of the dual-SRM controller. Second, in order to improve the dynamic response performance of the dual-SRM, the reference speed compensation strategy is calculated based on the observed disturbances, actual speed, and reference speed. The reference speed of two motors is regulated with the virtual speed command and the calculated compensation value. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified with simulations and experiments.
