This paper presents a control strategy for cold start of range-extended electric vehicles based on genetic algorithms, comprehensively taking into account the coupling characteristics between the thermal management system and the powertrain. It achieves cold start of both the range extender and the battery pack while satisfying the driver's power demands, striking an acceptable balance among fuel consumption, aging of the battery pack, and energy consumption of actuators. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of facilitating rapid cold starts and minimizing costs.
