Empirical large area testing is carried out to define the capability of a multi-static radar network originally presented in [1] for long-distance aircraft tracking. Local signal extraction is based on Doppler-only information from VHF illuminators of opportunity. The Extended Kalman Filter is used to track aircraft speed and position after track initialization. The validity of the tracks is verified with reference data based on Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) information. The system can even detect space-borne tracks.
