This paper presents a direct predictive control scheme without current sensor for induction motor drives. The control scheme includes a double-loop system with a speed loop controller adopting proportional-integral algorithm and a current loop controller adopting direct predictive control algorithm. The future values of stator currents are predicted by motor model. Then, the voltage vector which minimizes a designed cost function is selected and applied to the inverter. This scheme can reduce the cost by replacing the actual sampled current by current sensor with the predicted current. A simulation study is performed in order to verify the feasibility and the performance with external disturbances of the proposed method. Furthermore, the scheme is successfully implemented on the experimental platform.
