Hydrocarbon evaporation from gasoline-fueled vehicles has become an important source of pollution produced by road transport. International regulations on Volatile Organic Compounds emissions are becoming increasingly stringent every year. This drives the need to analyze the evaporative emissions formation and to study the behavior of the carbon canister, used for limiting the emissions in the environment. This paper focuses on the description of the experimental techniques used to study the evaporation phenomenon under three aspects: evaporation caused by thermal conditions variation, evaporative emissions during fuel tank refueling, and carbon canister adsorption/desorption behavior in a controlled environment.
