This paper presents the design of a co-axial coupler which includes an impedance transformer, coaxial window and a transition to Sub Miniature version-A connector (SMA) for X-band Helix TWTs. The analytical design has been carried out for the window and the step impedance transformer. These are further optimized using the commercially available 3D electromagnetic simulation software package CST. The cold test measurements have also been carried out for the coupler along with the helix. The VSWR, which indicates the matching of the Slow Wave Structure and the coupler, is found to be 1.1, which is within the required and designed limits of 1.2. Based on the values obtained, the dimensions of the coupler were finalized for fabrication.
