Ultraviolet radiation is generated by sum-frequency mixing a distributed feedback laser and a diode-pumped solid-state laser to make high-speed absorption measurements of the hydroxyl radical. Measurements in a C/sub 2/H/sub 4/-air flame at 20 kHz are demonstrated.
