Multiobjective optimization for major design attributes of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) is commonly achieved by the finite element method, which can be time-consuming. This study presents a time-efficient framework to analyze the electromagnetic fields and NVH toward the co-design of SRMs. A magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC)-based approach is proposed to analyze the electromagnetic characteristics, which greatly improves the accuracy over conventional MEC for arbitrary geometries. The natural frequencies of the stator system are identified using a systematic approach, which is suitable for motors with complex frames. The vibration response and acoustic noise prediction are analyzed and evaluated by the analytical approach. Experimental validation is performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The proposed framework can be implemented for the co-design of geometry and control algorithm to balance the tradeoff between torque density, torque ripple, efficiency, and acoustic noise, ultimately achieving the best performance of SRMs.
