The phenomenon of ice-covered transmission conductors that often gallop under wind loads and can be a great threat to the national economy. And in consideration of the impact of multi-degree of freedom coupling of ice-covered multi-split conductor gallop mechanism and its prevention and control measures of research is still immature problem. In this regard, in order to propose a reasonable solution for the prevention and control of transmission line galloping, this paper based on the eccentric inertial coupling instability of the galloping mechanism. Firstly, the influence of multi-degree-of-freedom coupling on transmission conductor galloping is considered and the dynamic characteristics of the conductor are analysed. Secondly, the equations of motion of the conductor-gallop suppressor are established to clarify the main influencing parameters in the process of transmission conductor gallop prevention. Finally, it is concluded that the best gallop prevention effect is achieved when the mass ratio is 2%. This provides an important reference value for later research on multi-degree-of-freedom coupling of multi-split transmission conductors considering the influence of gallop and its suppression.
