Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are already largely adopted in the maritime scenario; however, to fully exploit GNSS benefits and even to advance towards unsupervised/unmanned operations, higher accuracy and integrity are required. To improve these two issues, the European system Galileo is on the path to include new advanced capabilities, namely the High Accuracy Service (HAS) and the Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA). The rationale for the novel services is introduced with specific reference to maritime scenario. With respect to HAS some preliminary analyses carried out on the basis of Internet-distributed corrections will be presented. On the other side, anti-spoofing techniques like OSNMA are fundamental for safe and secure operations: however, the discussion will prove that solving for spoofing threat still leaves open the more general issue of jamming, critical to navigation. Overall, new Galileo services can be considered a quite significant improvement, yet not the ultimate one, along the path to a successful e-Nav implementation.
