Dimples have always attracted engineers due its effect of reducing pressure drag in the case of bluff bodies. These dimples induce turbulence at lower Reynolds number, providing extra energy or momentum to the boundary layer and delaying the flow separation. This leads to smaller wake or swirl regions around the body, reducing the total drag. In our previous studies, we have analyzed the aerodynamic effects of dimples on a NACA-2412 Aerofoil profile using ANSYS FLUENT and found an increase in lift, along with the reduction in drag. These results demonstrate and back the already existing studies over the advantages of dimples in drag reduction over aircraft wings. This study is extending the findings to realize an optimized dimple shape for best performance. However, this advantage might not be effective for all Aerofoil profiles.
