Summary form only given. One of the primary driving requirements for optical modulators is low drive voltage. At the same time the development of velocity-matched traveling-wave modulators in LiNbO/sub 3/ and other materials has provided large available bandwidth. This paper reports on broadband operation of a new device, a reflection traveling-wave interferometric modulator, which achieves low drive voltage by doubling the electro-optic interaction length. Operation is demonstrated to 20 GHz, with drive voltages from 0.5-4 V.
