In this study conducted in Minna, Nigeria, the focus was on the use of tricycles as a transportation system. The main objectives were to assess the level of driving knowledge among tricycle operators, identify the challenges they encounter, and propose potential solutions to address these issues. To gather data, a mixed-methods approach combining surveys and interviews was employed with tricycle operators. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the operators' driving knowledge, covering topics such as road safety, traffic regulations, and specific operational procedures related to tricycle operation. The collected data provided valuable insights into areas where operators lacked knowledge and areas that needed improvement. Additionally, the study investigated the challenges faced by tricycle operators in Minna, including traffic congestion, inadequate infrastructure, safety concerns, difficulties in obtaining permits and licenses, absence of parking or waiting areas, and high operating costs. Through interviews with the operators and stakeholders, the study aimed to understand the extent and impact of these challenges on their daily operations. Based on the findings, several solutions were proposed to address the identified challenges. These solutions encompassed implementing traffic management strategies to alleviate congestion, improving infrastructure to accommodate tricycles, enhancing safety measures through training and enforcement, streamlining the permit and licensing process, providing designated parking areas, and exploring options for reducing costs and offering financial support to tricycle operators. The study's findings and proposed solutions contribute to a better understanding of tricycle operation in Minna and provide valuable insights for policymakers, transportation authorities, and stakeholders to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of tricycle transportation in the city. It is recommended to further research and collaborate among relevant parties to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of these proposed solutions.
