Electric vehicles (EVs) are both electric load to the power grid and traffic load to the transportation network. Traditionally, research on EV charging strategies focuses on the operational state of EV groups from the power grid side, without considering actual traffic congestion on the road network side. This paper proposes an optimization method for EV charging strategy based on traffic equilibrium theory. First, a semi-dynamic traffic equilibrium model is established to solve the distribution of traffic flow, combining traffic equilibrium theory. Subsequently, the concept of comprehensive cost is introduced by considering both the queuing time cost and electricity price cost for car users, and a path optimization model based on a directed weighted graph is constructed. The optimal charging strategy is solved using an improved Dijkstra algorithm. Finally, based on actual road conditions data from a highway, parameters such as actual queuing time and charging time are determined by considering Gaussian-distributed random fluctuations. The effectiveness of the proposed charging strategy optimization method is further analyzed and verified. The results show that the method described in this paper can solve the optimization problem of EV charging strategy on highways considering time-dependent traffic flow.
