One example of a two-beam receiver is the diode-clamped receiver, realized in FET-SEED technology. Since the receiver operates with two beams in a push-pull fashion, it can enjoy the advantages of high input impedance without the bandwidth penalty generally incurred with single beam high impedance receivers. It has been run with both differential and single-ended data, and consumes roughly 3-4 mW of power. The layout area consumed is roughly 65 x 50 /spl mu/m, and is dominated by the conservative metalization and contact rules of the FET-SEED technology.
