With the development of China’s economy, heavy and medium-sized trucks are playing an increasingly important role in the transportation of bulk materials on main highways and supporting major national engineering construction. But the risk of road traffic accidents caused by it has also become increasingly prominent. This article takes the accident data of heavy and medium-sized trucks in recent years as an example, and based on the ordered Logit algorithm, analyzes the high influencing factors of the severity of heavy and medium-sized truck accidents. Then, the accident severity prediction model based on random forest algorithm is constructed to predict the accident. Research has shown that the high impact factors on the severity of heavy and medium-sized truck accidents are road type, road surface conditions, lighting, vehicle type, driving experience, accident responsibility, driving status, and traffic control methods. The research conclusions can provide decision-making reference for the prevention of heavy and medium-sized truck accidents.
