The Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communications System (AeroMACS) is intended to provide safety communication service to ACs on the airport surface. — Technology is under development. — AeroMACS will provide broadband communication with high data throughput (∼ 5Mbps). — NextGenATM and SWIM services such as software and database loads, engine data, weather data, Airport information, Taxi guidance etc., are candidate applications — AeroMACS profile is based on IEEE standard 802.16, uses aeronautical spectrum (5091–5150 MHz) — Leverages WiMAX Forum Profile to ensure interoperability across multivendor implementations. — RTCA Special Committee 223 and EUROCAE Working Group 82 have developed an aviation specific profile of applicable IEEE 802.16 specifications — Minimum Operational Performance Specifications (MOPS) for the aircraft AeroMACS radio is under development. — Honeywell contributed for Security Framework standardization for AeroMACS radios.
