The concept of the autonomous car was first originated in late 30s of the last century. Yet the technology has to come a long way to become a reality. Many developed countries have already made major technological advances to bring this technology for common use in near future. Still developing countries are lagging far behind for adaptation of this novel technology. Autonomous Vehicle (AV) technology is expected to enhance road safety, mobility, service and comfort for road users and hence will be able to serve the purpose of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). In order to avail these benefits, developing countries like Bangladesh needs to focus on their infrastructural development to embrace this technology when it becomes ready to be implemented. Also they need to conduct extensive research work for the development of the technology to be suited for their own context.
