The numerical solution of differential equations for directioncosine matrices and quaternions is fundamental to many inertialnavigation systems. Algorithms based on Padé approximants areshown to preserve the normality of quaternions and orthogonality ofdirection cosine matrices. An error analysis shows improvedperformance over conventional algorithms.
