The paper is concerned with the selection of suitable ‘sites’ for setting up charging stations for commercial Electric Vehicle fleets for passenger transport in India. The paper attempts to answer the question of where to locate the public charging facilities through multi criteria decision making tools. This paper applies Analytical Hierarchy Process to the siting problem breaking down the decision making problem into four steps (1) assessment of preferred options for charging, (2) identification of the possible criteria important for siting, (3) determine the importance of each criteria, and (4) employ the results to develop a technique to prioritize among alternative locations. The investigation identifies that the charging possibilities the major commercial vehicle segments in India are captive charging, en-route charging and charging at public parking spaces. The paper identifies the importance of each criteria that influence the selection of a charging facility for every identified charging possibility. This is used to develop a general technique to assist in prioritization of possible sites to establish charging stations.
