Stimulated Brillouin scattering has been studied in 500 m of low loss (3 dB/km) photonic crystal fiber. The results reveal a higher threshold power than in conventional single mode fibers, which further increases with decreasing wavelength. Efficient SBS-induced lasing and other unusual features are observed.
