Unmanned air vehicles (UAV) are here to conquer the skies not only for military but civilian applications also. There has been a tremendous push to adopt the technology in all verticals due to ease of access and low-cost aerial applications. Undoubtedly, UAV technology holds great promise and has transformed the perception of aerial mobility. With the emerging advanced technologies, UAV systems are quickly shifting from stand-alone radio-based controls to mobile networks for civilian use. However, there is a dire need to bring the end-to-end UAV system to a standard platform and enable compatibility with the existing mobile network infra. The existing proposals are still immature and lack proof of concepts on actual hardware. Addressing the same, an IMS-enabled UAV authentication, control and routing system is proposed in this paper. The paper discusses the design and implementation of a production-level system for UAV operation on the mobile network taking into consideration the pilots, the actual aircraft and the UAV traffic management system. The system uses a Machine To Machine (M2M) communication architecture to synchronize between the entities integrated with generic IMS-based service Infrastructure [1].
