With the development of share-mobility, Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) service has been popularized in many cities in China, however, the service as not formed the scale benefit as expected. DRT is recognized as an efficient, flexible, and effective supplement to the traditional public transit service, understanding the usage characteristics of users and the network structure is essential to improve service quality and operational efficiency for DRT. In this study, we extracted user usage patterns from more than two years subscription data of a DRT service in Shanghai. The results show 1) the DRT network has small-world characteristics, 2) the node strength is power-law distributed, 3) high ridership volume stops are more closely connected, forming a rich-club phenomenon, 4) the origin-destination (OD) pair volume distribution has significant differences, constituting different communities in the network. The above findings all reflect the hierarchical structure in DRT network. The elaborations of hierarchical attributes can offer an innovative perspective and valuable strategy for cost savings, network optimization, and schedule planning for DRT and similar shared mobility services.
