The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is considering the use of the 5091-5150 MHz subband for the future Airport Network and Location Equipment (ANLE) system. The same frequency band has also been allocated, on a co-primary basis, to mobile-satellite-service (MSS) feeder uplinks. ANLE is visualized as a high-data-rate wireless broadband network for the airport surface environment. An ANLE network architecture using the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) implementation described in the IEEE 802.16 family of standards is assumed in this paper. This analysis considers interference effects from multiple ANLE base stations (BSs) at the same airport, evaluates interference to MSS satellite receivers from ANLE networks with sectorized BSs, and includes the effects of multiple simultaneous OFDMA transmissions. Our results show that, given the parameters identified in the paper for ANLE networks and for MSS feeder uplinks, bandsharing is feasible between these systems.
