Transportation electrification demands extensive research in electrical machines and drives to meet application constraints effectively. Variable pole induction motors (VPIMs) present an attractive solution for electric traction, offering high torque through a wide speed range that can ultimately replace mechanical gearboxes. This paper focuses on analyzing the effect of inverter DC bus voltage on VPIM performance. By investigating the torque-speed curve, constant power region, and efficiency under varying inverter DC bus voltage conditions, valuable insights are gained into motor behavior with different pole configurations. These findings contribute to optimizing motor control algorithms and selecting suitable inverter DC bus voltage levels for VPIMs in electric vehicle applications.
