Entropy based on the wavelet transform reflects the degree of order/disorder of the signals. It can provide additional information about the underlying dynamical process associated with the signal. Our aim was to demonstrate the applicability of wavelet entropy measures to analysis of neural firing of normal rats and temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) rats. TLE neurons occurred at lower total wavelet entropy values compared with normal hippocampus neurons (P≪0.001). And also the time-dependent wavelet entropy is relatively lower in TLE rats. The Wavelet Entropy may be a useful tool for quantitatively measuring the level of synchrony of neural firing. It seems to provide evidence that abnormal epileptogenic neuronal discharge properties also exit in single neuron level.
