This study addresses multiple line array (MLA) sonars, where each line array sonar (LAS) has several signal receivers along the array. Utilizing the receiver measurements, every LAS measures the single-valued conic angle of sound generated from a surface target ship. This study considers a scenario in which an LAS is attached to the body of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). All UUVs are sparsely positioned at various sea depths, while measuring a surface target ship' sound. Our goal is to localize the surface target ship based on conic angle measurements of MLA. As far as we know, this study is unique in proposing a surface target ship localization based on conic angle measurements of MLA. In addition, this article analyzes the target ship observability utilizing MLA at various locations. The effectiveness of the proposed surface target ship localization is proved through MATLAB simulations.
