When a fault occurs in power distribution system, Distribution Management System (DMS) isolates the fault immediately. Then the load outside the faulty point has to be restored. As the distribution lines and devices have load limits, a simple restoration by closing the normally open switch can not restore all the loads when the distribution system is in a heavy load condition. Normally heuristic methods are used to solve the problem, but they can not guarantee the optimal solution and are complex and time consuming. A restoration switching algorithm which utilizes front root traversal can search the feeder tree to find the transfer routes which can maximum the restore load, then merge the transfer routes and get the solution that have the minimum operations. This method can make the service restoration through load transfer as much as possible with minimum operation by a fast and simple way and can be utilized in real-time application.
