An apparatus includes a memory for storing image data; and processing circuitry in communication with the memory. The processing circuitry is configured to generate a respective context vector for each pixel of the image data; generate a respective initial depth distribution for each pixel of the image data; and determine, for each pixel of the image data, a respective predicted depth peakiness factor based on the respective initial depth distribution, the respective predicted depth peakiness factor indicating a confidence of a depth for the pixel. The processing circuitry is also configured to determine a respective final depth distribution for each pixel based on the respective predicted depth peakiness factor and the respective initial depth distribution; and generate a bird's eye view (BEV) image using the respective final depth distribution for each pixel of the image data and the respective context vector for each pixel of the image data.
