In one embodiment a landing platform system using translating aircraft landing modules enables supported vehicles to reduce weight, costs, and complexity by use of simple undercarriage provisions other than landing gear. Additionally, such a system has the additional benefit of increasing operational efficiency by enabling inter-flight tasks to be undertaken before and after the aircraft is at the gate position—enabling a dramatic decrease in turnaround time.
