A method for geofencing an unmanned aerial vehicle according to one embodiment includes receiving one or more control inputs to the unmanned aerial vehicle associated with movement of the unmanned aerial vehicle, wherein the one or more control inputs are received by the mobile device prior to transmittal to the unmanned aerial vehicle, retrieving parcel data that identifies geographical boundaries of the land parcel within which the unmanned aerial vehicle is operating, determining a distance between the unmanned aerial vehicle and a boundary of the land parcel, reducing a speed value associated within the one or more control inputs to generate one or more modified control inputs in response to determining that the distance is within a threshold distance, and transmitting the one or more modified control inputs to the unmanned aerial vehicle.
