A method of determining whether it is necessary to inert an aircraft fuel tank is disclosed including providing a temperature value indicative of a temperature of the fuel (F) in a fuel tank after refuelling or indicative of the temperature at the aircraft's predicted departure time and location, and based on the temperature value, determining whether or not it is necessary to inert the aircraft fuel tank. A method of controlling the supply of inerting gas to the fuel tank, and an aircraft fuel tank inerting control system are disclosed.
