Systems and methods for recording and communicating engine data are provided. One example embodiment is directed to a method for testing communications. The method includes receiving a message via a data load protocol. The method includes initiating a connectivity test, in response to the received message. When the connectivity test fails, the method includes transmitting a failure signal associated with the data load protocol. When the connectivity test passes, the method includes transmitting a success signal associated with the data load protocol.
