In some examples, a method includes determining a context of a vehicle, selecting a particular smart mode from among multiple smart modes that are associated with the vehicle, the particular smart mode being associated with deactivation or moderation of one or more vehicle components that draw battery power or that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, and transmitting a message to deactivate or moderate the one or more vehicle components of the vehicle according to the selected, particular smart mode.
