A method and apparatus are described, for providing short-range uncompressed video service in a cellular network. The method comprises the steps of: establishing a communication link between at least one local sensor to a base station or to a first user equipment (UE), by using a non-cellular technology; establishing a radio communication channel by using a cellular technology between at least one second user equipment (UE) and the base station or between at least one second UE and the first UE by using a device-to-device (D2D) cellular technology; transmitting over the radio communication channel, uncompressed video data representing at least one area of the video image that was received from the at least one local sensor or control information resulting from processing the received data; and providing the received data or the control information to at least one mobile application residing at the at least one second UE or to at least one control element associated with the at least one second UE.
