A fire extinguishing system for vehicles which can quickly extinguish an initial fire in the event of a fire in a vehicle by circulating or spraying fire extinguishing liquid through a refrigerant line of a cooling system in the vehicle, and a control method thereof are disclosed. A fire extinguishing system for vehicles according to the present invention includes: a cooling device of a vehicle which is equipped with a refrigerant line circulating through a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, an evaporator, and a gas-liquid separator; a fire extinguishing liquid container in which fire extinguishing liquid is stored; a multi-way valve which is provided at a point upstream of the compressor on the refrigerant line to control the refrigerant flowing into the compressor and is connected to the fire extinguishing liquid container to control the supply of the fire extinguishing liquid to the compressor; and a control unit which controls the multi-way valve to implement a cooling operation of the cooling device or extinguishment of the cooling device.

    차량의 냉각장치의 냉매라인을 통해 소화액을 순환 또는 분출 시킴으로써 차량의 화재 발생시 신속하게 초기진화를 할 수 있는 차량의 화재진화시스템 및 그 제어방법이 소개된다.
