The present disclosure relates to a thermal runaway detection system that comprises a venting device (55) with sealing bodies (551, 552, 553) disposed in a venting passage (555). The sealing bodies (551, 552, 553) are configured to close the venting passage (555) in a first position and is configured to open the venting passage (555) in a second position. The thermal runaway detection system further comprises a thermal runaway detection circuit (60) that is configured for monitoring the positions of the sealing bodies (551, 552, 553) and for outputting signals corresponding to the positions. The thermal runaway detection circuit (60) comprises a first detection node (63) connected to the venting device (55) and a second detection node (64) connected to the venting device (55), wherein a conductible path between the first detection node (63) and the second detection node (64) is set conductive via the sealing bodies (551, 552, 553) in one of the first position and the second position, and a controller (60) is configured to detect the conductivity of the conductible path and also configured to output a signal corresponding to the conductivity of the conductible path.
