A vision based adaptive cruise control system and a method are provided. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a vehicle control method comprises: acquiring a front image of a vehicle through a camera; recognizing a driving condition from the acquired image; acquiring distance information with a preceding vehicle through radar; and controlling the vehicle with a line condition and the distance information with the preceding vehicle. Therefore, when performing an adaptive cruise control system function, the front image obtained from the camera is analyzed to detect a traffic lane and calculate a curvature radius of the traffic lane to recognize a curved road and control a vehicle speed, thereby preventing acceleration that may be caused as the preceding vehicle is not detected when being driven on the curved road.

    비전 기반 적응형 순항 제어 시스템 및 방법이 제공된다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 차량 제어 방법은, 카메라를 통해 차량 전방의 영상을 획득하고, 획득한 영상으로부터 주행 상황을 인지하며, 레이다를 통해 선행차량과의 거리 정보를 획득하고, 행 상황과 선행차량과의 거리 정보를 이용하여 차량을 제어한다. 이에 의해, 적응형 순항 제어 시스템 기능을 수행할 때, 카메라를 통해 얻은 전방 영상을 분석하여 차선을 검출하고 차선의 곡률 반경을 계산함으로써 곡선도로를 인식하고 차량의 속도를 제어하여, 곡선도로 주행 시 선행차량이 탐지가 되지 않아 속도가 가속되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
