The present invention provides a system and a method for automatically controlling a headlight and a taillight. According to the present invention, the system for controlling a headlight and a taillight comprises: a headlight placed in the front of a vehicle; an image photographing unit photographing an image around the vehicle; an illumination intensity measurement unit measuring illumination intensity around the vehicle; a vehicle speed measurement unit measuring a vehicle speed of the vehicle; and a control unit turning off the headlight when determining that night falls based on the measured illumination intensity, determining that the vehicle stops based on the measured vehicle speed, and determining that a preceding vehicle is placed in the front adjacent to the vehicle based on the photographed image.

    본 발명은 전조등 및 후방등 제어 시스템 및 제어 방법을 제공하는데 있다. 본 발명에 따른 전조등 및 후방등 제어 시스템은 차량 전방에 위치한 전조등과 차량 주변의 영상을 촬영하는 영상 촬영부와 차량 주변의 조도를 측정하는 조도 측정부와 차량의 차속을 측정하는 차속 측정부 및 측정된 조도를 기초로 야간으로 판단되고, 측정된 차속을 기초로 정지 상태로 판단되고, 촬영한 영상을 기초로 근접한 전방에 선행 차량이 위치하면, 상기 전조등을 오프 하는 제어부를 포함한다.
